When Mark Carlson was in high school he knew he wanted to be a teacher, and though it took a few years to get there, it is a career that has given him great satisfaction and enriched the lives of everyone around him.

PELICAN COVE HAS NEW OWNERS

After a long, cold spring, life is finally stirring at the lake and Brett Behrends and his crew at Pelican Cove are busy preparing for a fun summer on Valhalla Island. Brett recently purchased the bar and hotel, which includes a large beach, ten campsites and plenty of boat slips for guests. He is continuing improvements that were started by the previous owner and the summer hotspot will be your place for recreation and relaxation.

MAY 26TH IS AMERICAN LEGION POPPY DAY

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64 of Slayton will be distributing Poppies in the community on Thursday, May 26th. The money collected will be used to support Veterans programs. When you see members of the Auxiliary with Poppies remember what our Veterans have done to keep this nation free. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice and so many still struggle today. Please be generous and give from the heart. Thank you for your generosity and for honoring our Veterans .

SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL LOOKS INTO SEWER REALIGNMENT FOR OAK AVE

Slayton City Council met on Monday, May 16th. Councilmember Blake Heronimus was absent from the evening’s meeting. They approved the minutes from the previous meetings on May 2nd and April 27th, as well as the claims for the month.

WORK CONTINUES ON GOLF CART ORDINANCE

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter presented the Gambling Permit Applications of Currie & Country at Key Largo.
