Carol DeZeeuw was born on October 10, 1937, in Verdi, Minnesota to Arnold and Etta Sowden Severeid. She grew up on the family farm in Lincoln County, MN until 1945 when the family moved to a farm in Cameron Township, Murray County, MN. Carol graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1956. On April 22, 1957, she and Marion “Ken” DeZeeuw were married at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN. Following their marriage they farmed west of Holland, MN until 1965 when they moved to Lake Wilson. Carol was the bookkeeper for Gene and Ken’s Service for many years. Ken passed away on May 4, 1985. Carol remained in the home they shared together until August 2026 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Pipestone, MN. She passed away there on October 5, 2026, at the age of 88. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson where she was active in the Ladies Aid and the quilting group. She served as an Election Judge and was a Senior Citizens Volunteer. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing, camping, gardening, and cooking.
Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Cynthia and Darrel Stoll of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Rodney and Jean DeZeeuw of Eden Prairie, MN, one grandson, Troy DeZeeuw of Des Moines, IA four siblings, Keith “Pete” and Betty Severeid of Pipestone, MN, Lowell “Gus” Severeid of Albuquerque, NM, Claudia and Mark Barry of Rapid City, SD, and Rhonda Vos of Lake Wilson, MN, and three sisters-in-law, Toni Severeid of Lake Wood, CO, Darlene Severeid of Spencer, IA, and Sharon Severeid of Lake Wilson, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ken, brothers, LeRoy, Gene, Virgil “Butch” and Mark “Bud”, sisters, Betty and Bonita, sister- in-law, Linda Severeid and brothers-in-law, Loren Kepler, Ron Vos and Dennis Grogan.
Memorial Services were at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Saturday, October 10, 2026, with Rev. Robert Ossefoort officiating. The organist was Darlene Bose. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson, MN.
