(Autumn) has officially arrived now. And its time to get going on some of our Fall chores. As for gardening, be sure you have a storage place for the items you wish to keep until needed in the kitchen. And some seeds too for next year’s garden.
If your garden didn’t make what you might need, be sure to check Farmers’ Markets in many area towns. While there get at least two pumpkins. One for eating and showing and the other for Halloween. Makes a good Jack o’ Lantern.
As for house and yard work, a lot can be done. Last week we mentioned the trees will be dropping their leaves. Some people rake them up and either trashing them or having a late bonfire.
The best thing would be to grind up the leaves and leave them on the ground. When they rot, that makes fertilizer for the tree to make leaves for the next year - and is the cheapest fertilizer.
Another chore from past years was to change the summer window screens for storm windows. The first thing was to get the storm windows out, check them over for repairs, and then wash them. And finally wash the windows when the screens came off. Quite often this chore waited until it was nearly freezing outside and a necessity. And maybe mow the yard another time. Inside be sure to water your house plants again.
