MCC TAKES ON ADRIAN-ELLSWORTH AGAIN IN 1ST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS

The MCC Rebels opened Section 3A football playoffs with a home game Tuesday night against the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons. The same two teams played in Adrian last Wednesday to complete the regular season. The Rebels won that game in double overtime to earn the right to host the playoff opener against the Dragons. It was a beautiful night for football and both teams were ready to play. The winner knew they would play the TMB Panthers on Saturday because the Panthers had already advanced due to Wabasso not participating in the playoffs. With the Panthers in the stands the Rebels and the Dragons would take to the field of play for the second time in six days.

MCC WINS IN OVERTIME AGAINST ADRIAN-ELLSWORTH

It was a cold night this past Wednesday as the MCC Rebels regular season came to an end in Adrian. The Rebels were taking on their long-time rivals. Sometimes the last game of the season has little on the line because both teams are set in their playoffs positioning but in this case the two teams were playing for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs Tuesday night. The winner of this game would play host to the loser in less than a week’s time.

REBELS GIRLS FINISH STRONG AGAINST EDGERTON AT HOME

It was senior night in Slayton this past Monday evening (October 17) as this year’s volleyball players would play their final regular season match at home. The Lady Dutchmen were in town to upset that event and nearly succeeded, but MCC held on to claim victory in five sets. The Rebels were looking for a strong game out of their leaders to take the right vibe into tournament play. MCC took control of game one and contained Edgerton through most of the set. The Rebels were able to stave off an attack by the Lady Dutchmen, but they did make it interesting managing to take the lead from the Rebels late in the game. Who would make the next error kept fans on the edge of their seats as they watched the lead change five times before MCC finished on a kill by Kate Slettum, 26-24. The second set favored the home team and the team plowed forward to victory without much threat, 25-17. A long rally kicked off set three as MCC jumped out to an early lead. Critical errors by the Rebels let the Dutchmen back in the game and that allowed Edgerton to prove the night wasn’t over as they win the set MCC 19 Edgerton 25. Leading the match two games to one, MCC looked to take the fourth but Edgerton wasn’t just walking away. Rebels led early into the set behind a great offensive attack by Zoey Iverson, both at the net and the service line. The girls were able to keep Edgerton at bay until a couple blocking errors combined with lapses in communication gave the Dutchmen the window they needed to get back into the game and into extra innings. Fans were on the edge of their seats anticipating each point and were resigned to an extended night of volleyball as the Dutchmen take set four, 2927. The final set picked right up from the previous set and the fight for points continued. The teams were equally matched as each one saw multiple defensive errors partnered with successful attacks. It was the home team prevailing in their last regular season match, 1513.

WARRIORS GIRLS AND BOYS TEAMS WIN RED ROCK CONFERENCE MEET

By Student Reporter, Allie Paulzine The MCC/F Warriors cross country team had an incredibly successful week. On Monday October 17th the Warriors competed at the Red Rock Conference Meet in Fulda. Many runners on the team had never competed in Fulda and they were excited to compete on a new course. They quickly learned that Fulda’s course is somewhat similar to the Slayton Gold Course with it’s abundance of hills. The weather added to the difficulty of the course being 29 degrees and pretty windy but the Warriors persevered and brought home two Red Rock Conference Champion Titles.
