The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on July 5, the first meeting of the month. Meetings are regularly scheduled for the first, third and fourth Tuesday each month. Commissioner Molly Malone currently serves as Chairperson. Dave Thiner, Dennis Welgraven, Jim Kluis and Lori Gunnink make up the remainder of the board.

The Murray County Medical Center Board of Directors met on June 29th in the regular session. Financial reports showed a net income of $258,000 for the month of May with an year to date total of $393,000. Due to ongoing updates to the EPIC system other reports presented at these meetings were not available.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa—Ashley Hellewell* and Hannah Van Iperen, students at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, earned a spot on the Academic Dean’s List for the spring 2022 semester. The Dean’s List is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours.

Michelle Susan Zenk of Hadley has been named to the Deans’ List at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the spring semester of the 2021-22 academic year. Zenk, a junior majoring in agricultural and environmental sciences communication, and environmental studies, was named to the Dean’s List for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The following students graduated after the spring 2022 semester at South Dakota State University. The more than 1,500 students listed below completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program and those requirements have been verified by the appropriate college.

Make plans now to attend the 2022 Murray County Master Gardeners’ Summer Garden Tour on Thursday, July 21 from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Slayton area after a two year COVID hiatis. The Slayton Community Band and Area Churches will be hosting the 2nd annual HYMN SING at Gullord Park on Thursday, July 7 at 7:00 P.M. If you were there last year, it was an evening to remember! This is a collaboration between the area Ministerial Group and the Community Band. Songs that will be included are Amazing Grace, Praise to the Lord, and Chorale Prelude: For the Beauty of the Earth. There will be other hymns sang accompanied by pianist, Bev Swift. You will not want to miss this organized event!

Kendra Gleis received a 1st place in the 5-6 girls 50 yard freestyle. Brielle Plots took home 1st place honors in the 5-6 girls 100 yard individual medley.
