LAST CIVIL WAR SOLDIER BURIED IN MURRAY COUNTY TO BE HONORED ON APRIL 30

Private Edwin Wheeler, the last Civil War veteran buried in Murray County, will be honored in a ceremony at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Slayton Cemetery on Highway 59 (1/4 mile north on Highway 59 on the east side.) The ceremony is open to the public, veterans, and Civil War history buffs. Any of Private Edwin Wheeler’s descendants are most cordially invited to attend as a VIP.

YOUTH WRESTLERS COMPETE AT STATE COMPETITION

The road to Rochester for the Fulda/Murray County Central Warriors is paved with excitement, hard work, and dedication, and it all culminated with an excellent showing from Kindergarten wrestlers all the way through eighth grade. The Northland Youth Wrestling Association holds a state tournament every year that individuals and teams must qualify for in order to compete. At the same time they hold an invite tournament for any wrestlers who didn’t qualify for state competition but made it to the regions.

MN WEST SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE

Minnesota West Community and Technical College awarded students of $82,000 in scholarships last year. There are a wide variety of scholarships for new and returning students available through the Minnesota West Foundation and the Minnesota Workforce Development scholarship. Scholarship applications are available online and the deadline to apply is Friday, April 15.

For over one hundred years Midwest Supply has been a family-owned hardware business serving the needs of agricultural families and businesses in Slayton. Affiliated with Hardware Hank, the location has changed and grown but the common denominator has been ownership by partners who were friends with a spirit of entrepreneurship and service. The tradition continues as ownership has changed from Myron Trulock and Ken Schiller to Jason Wynia and Mike Kossack.

MCMC’S NEW RECORDS SYSTEM EPIC LAUNCHED

After two years of preparation and training, the Murray County Medical Center is thrilled to announce they have launched the new Epic software system for Electronic Medical Records or what are sometimes called Electronic Health Records. Chief Information Officer Justin Keller commented the new system went live a few weeks ago and though there have been a few challenges, the system is working quite well.

4-H PROJECT JUDGES CLINIC TO BE HELD IN SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA

University of Minnesota Extension will host a 4-H judges’ clinic for those interested in judging 4-H projects at the County Fair on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the RTR School in Tyler, Minnesota from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Both new and experienced judges are encouraged to attend.
