SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES XCEL ENERGY FRANCHISE AGREEMENT

The Slayton City Council met on Tuesday, July 5th because of the July 4th holiday. The agenda was approved with additions.

Regular meeting minutes for the June 20th meeting were reviewed and approved. As were the claims for the month. The only item under pending was the Xcel Energy Franchise agreement. Josh Malchow City Administrator updated the Council on the status of the data request that the City has made. Malchow and Heronimus spoke with their representative and legal rep and it was suggested to try meeting with Xcel to see if some common ground can be found. Eric Pauli reached out on behalf of Xcel regarding the message Malchow had left with Xcel with this request. Malchow explained to the Board an informal meeting will be set up at this point with Xcel and move forward from there. Dave Berg was hired awhile back to do work for the city and he offered options for having an assessment done of the Xcel infrastructure to find out the cost/appraisal to the city for the Xcel project that is being discussed. Heronimus moved to hire Berg to get an independent report done of the cost to be able to help the City make their decision.

There were no environmental impacts found for the Broadband Grant process and the next step will be to move forward with an RFP for the project with DEED for funding.

Moving on to the agenda additions, the Council approved the purchase of voice amps to attach to their masks for the Fire Department. They had received a grant to pay for the purchase of these. The Council also approved the request from the County to have the beer garden open during the Murray County Fair. They lastly approved for Jackie Giesen to attend training.

The meeting was adjourned.
