Fall is progressing with the days shortening. The weather is cooler, but not freezing - yet. Our garden and yard workings reducing it to mostly weekends now with the sun going down about supper time. As for work getting done, we still have some outside work to be done along with inside the house.

Applications are now open for United Community Action Partnership’s Energy Assistance Program. Renters and homeowners are encouraged to apply for the Energy Assistance program which helps eligible applicants pay a portion of home energy and heating costs.

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires Federal agencies to consider all potential environmental impacts for federally funded projects before the project is approved. For all Farm Service Agency (FSA) programs, an environmental review must be completed before actions are approved, such as site preparation or ground disturbance.

The sustained increase of prices for materials and new construction have continued to delay the start of the proposed Assisted Living Community in Slayton, MN. “Materials, labor availability, and labor costs continue to be the primary driver of cost increases with select items seeing historic highs,” says Matt Pallansch, President of MN Signature Care.

At some point this past summer, the Shetek Lutheran Camp suffered a broken pipe and resulting water leakage. It took some time and expense to identify the problem and find the broken pipe. The Camp and the Murray County Foundation collaborate on various youth development programs such as winter recreation and Ecology and Environment Camp. The Foundation Board decided to help the Camp with a $1,000 grant. Foundation Vice President, Judy LaBoda, presented the award to Camp Director and noted that: “The Camp is a valued asset in Murray County. It is also a positive force for youth development and environmental education in the community.” The Camp is still in need of funds for costs associated with the damage, so others are invited to help by contacting the Camp.
