The Slayton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64 will be distributing POPPIES in the community on Thursday, May 23rd. The money collected will be used to support Veteran’s programs. When you see members of the Auxiliary with the poppies remember what our Veterans have done and are doing to keep this nation free. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice and so many still struggle today. Amber Post of Lake Wilson was among 252 graduates to receive bachelor’s degrees at Northwestern College during commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 11. Thirty students received Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees, while the rest of the graduating seniors were granted Bachelor of Arts degrees.

The true team series was originated in 1987 by the State Track and Field Coaches Association, to address the need in Track and Field for a True TEAM competition. In previous years, a team with a few elite athletes could win the “Team Championship” in a large meet. The Coaches felt the Team Championship should be won by the best TEAM.

Thursday, May 9 MCC at HLO/Fulda MCC 10 HLO/F 0 The MCC Rebel Softball team was on the road on Thursday afternoon, as they continued their Red Rock Conference Schedule against the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda. The Rebels beat the Coyotes by 15 runs in their first meeting in Slayton earlier this season and were looking to continue a six-game winning streak.

It was a beautiful day at Worthington Country Club for the final Red Rock Conference meet on Tuesday. The conference players were ecstatic to have sunshine and minimal wind. Many players struggled with the difficult pin placements and fast greens. A few of MCC’s players commented on how they need to put more time into putting, so they can make better shots for next week. However, the Rebels played very well and walked away with some hardware.
