GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark In last week’s column we mentioned seeing sweet corn stands. We hope the sweet corn in your garden is now or near the edible stage. In addition to the family sweet corn stands, locally grown sweet corn is also available at the weekly farmers markets and some area supermarkets too.

Mother used to make it clear - eat the sweet corn as soon as possible after picking as it starts downgrading as soon as picked. With that in mind be sure to ask when the corn was picked to make sure it is fresh enough.

Otherwise we hope your garden is coming along ok - with the weeds under control and the garden produce ready for your dining table. And then having some of your garden produce for your meals.

Remember to check the Farmers’ Markets for your needs as well. Don’t forget to water your indoor house plants either. In the meantime we hope it rains to help the garden produce and lawns.

Until next week.
