Slayton Public Library’s monthly Documentary Club starts this month! Running from October 2026 through March 2027, this club is similar to a book club, but for short, educational films. Each month, you are invited to gather together, watch a short documentary (1 hour or less) with your friends and neighbors, and afterwards engage in a round-table discussion. A volunteer host will prompt the audience with questions to unpack the film’s themes and gauge their reactions.

Two of the most powerful laws in the universe are recorded in Romans 8:1-2. First, if you are a member of the body of Christ - there is no condemnation. If you feel that God is condemning you, don’t believe it. That condemnation is coming from yourself or other people or demonic forces. Second, the law of the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of life has set us free from the law of sin and death. Many Christians do not understand this truth. They live defeated lives believing God is mad at them for sins they have committed and the devil beats them over the head and keeps them in bondage, sickness and defeat. If you have sinned, confess it to God and forsake it; and according to 1 John 1:7-9 He will forgive you of all unrighteousness. Then, saturate your life with God’s Word and study His exceeding great and precious promises that He has given to us. Receive them by faith, believe them and act on them, confess them; for life and death are in the power of the tongue. Prov. 18:21 the NLT says, “The tongue can bring death or life ; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Get out from being under the law of sin and death. God bless.

We begin this week’s column by returning to last week’s column. In that column we suggested you plant a second garden then mentioned the first day of frost - as October 1st. Apparently this happened once in history.

More than half of the election precincts. In Murray County vote by mail, according to Murray County Auditor/Treasurer Heidi Winter, and the bulk of those ballots have been sent out.

Fulda City Council members held lengthy discussions during their Monday evening meeting regarding several items listed on the October agenda. Included in the discussions were upcoming streets and sewer improvements, a proposed Fulda Fire Department Personnel Policy and two proposed ordinances regarding motorized bicycles, scooters, golf carts, ATV’s and UTV’s.

Join us for a full day of fall fun at the 20th Annual Fall Pumpkin Festival at Lake Shetek State Park’s Picnic Area on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. Jump in the large leaf pile for prizes or just for fun!
