GOOD NEWS

By John Stenen I read of a group of scientists, years ago, who tried out an experiment in Chicago. A female moth of a rare species was placed in a room. Four miles away a male moth of the same species was released. In spite of smog, traffic, and all the noise, it took only a few hours before the male moth was at the window of the room, where the female moth was, and was beating its wings against the glass. Also, consider tagged salmon released from the Columbia River; they spend four years in the Pacific Ocean, and then return to the place from where they departed. How do you explain that? Evolution? I hardly think so. God has revealed Himself in millions of ways all throughout creation. Even the heavens declare the glory of God. His wisdom and power are evident wherever you look. Jesus Christ is God; He came here two thousand years ago, and went to the cross for your sin and mine, and He paid the price to secure our eternal salvation. - If you repent of your sin, and give your life to Him, He stands ready to receive you into His family. I encourage you to do it before it’s too late. God bless.

GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark In getting ready for this year’s gardening some of you gardeners might have another sources of seeds. We are talking about saving the seeds from a squash or pumpkin or similar. When Grandma was still with us she saved a plate full of seeds from every squash we ate. Finally she had the bedroom loaded with seeds. Our most memorable seeds came once when we were in Minneapolis attending something at the Auditorium. Outside we found some broken pieces of a pumpkin, probably from a garden show. We saved some seeds and the next year grew what we called Auditorium pumpkins. The flesh was several inches thick so the pumpkins were not small. Sometimes we left our vegetables to go to seed and after drying out save them for the next year’s planting. This works fine with generic rather than hybrids.

THEOLOGY IN THE TRENCHES

It’s been a year now since the big move. Up and off the farm we did go after living upon the family homestead for over forty years. We’d never really gone house shopping before, so when this all began, we decided to make a wish list of sorts to sort it all out. At least that would be a starting point. Today, I found that list tucked away in the bottom of my purse and began to check off that which was granted. I was amazed that 100% of the wishes I wished for were granted.

A Life Beyond Reproach

“ For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” Ephesians 1:4 NIV Writing in the 7th century A.D., Saint Isidora of Seville claimed that “Philosophy is the knowledge of things human and divine, accompanied by the desire to live a life beyond reproach.” In ancient times, and up until a few hundred years ago, philosophers were expected to be exemplars of virtue, and not just people who knew a lot of arcane things. What happened to change this? There is a hint in the quote from Saint Isidora.
