GREEN THUMB

By this time you receive this week’s newspaper the Murray County Fair will be either closing or already done.

This year the annual parade was moved to Saturday. Also on Saturday the Fair will conclude with exhibits going home. Then its get back to normal work.

An email this week reminded us to make plans for our second garden of the year - this is to plant things now to get fresh vegetables until November freeze up.

Some suggestions include carrots, lettuce, cucumbers and, of course, radishes. You might still have some leftover seed to plant. Also its time to at least consider getting some things planted which will need to get going before winter - for next year’s enjoyment.

We’ll have more to say about such items in future columns. In the meantime, sweet corn stands are now in abundance. Also check Farmer’s Market for your needs. This will keep you busy for sure.
