What is 40/30? Well Murray County Friends, it is 40 years ago that Relay For Life began impacting the world. The Global Relay for Life movement started because of one person. In May 1985, Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, USA, raising money to help the American Cancer Society with the nation’s biggest health concern: cancer. The ACS has raised $7,000,000,000 (billion) since Relay for Life’s inception in 1985. The American Cancer Society is a leading cancer- fighting organization with a vision to end cancer as we know it for everyone. They are improving the lives of people with cancer and their families as the only organization combating cancer through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

LaCoursiere Jr. of Connecticut is coming to Slayton and will speak on issues of importance to Minnesota veterans. LaCoursiere is strongly committed to raising awareness for The American Legion’s “Be the One” efforts to prevent veteran suicide.

Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) in the Slayton area, sponsored by Second Harvest Heartland distribution will be held at the office of A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota - Murray County at 2989 Maple Rd., Slayton, MN. Distribution will take place on Thursday, March 13th, from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. And for Fulda area, distribution will be held near the Food Shelf at 305 S Lafayette Ave., Fulda, MN Distribution will take place on Monday, March 17th, from 1:30 - 2:00 pm.
