MCC SCHOOL BOARD HOLDS DECEMBER MEETING

The Murray County School Board met on Dec. 13, 2021. The Agenda was approved. No one from the public was present for the Truth in Taxation Payable 2022 Hearing. The Budget has been published in the editorial group. Property taxes went down .16%. If yours looks different, it is from some other reason, such as, your property value has risen.

USDA OPENS 2022 SIGNUP FOR DAIRY MARGIN COVERAGE, EXPANDS PROGRAM FOR SUPPLEMENTAL PRODUCTION

As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s ongoing efforts to support dairy farmers and rural communities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) opened signup for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program and expanded the program to allow dairy producers to better protect their operations by enrolling supplemental production. This signup period – which runs from Dec. 13, 2021 to Feb. 18, 2022 – enables producers to get coverage through this important safety-net program for another year as well as get additional assistance through the new Supplemental DMC.

The snowstorm of the past week reminded us of some past storms too. This writer was discussing it with another dining patron at a local restaurant. His story came when he was living in the mountains of Colorado. One time a snowstorm came in. Advance warning said it would be a big one and to stock up the pantry well. This turned out to be very correct.

The Christmas Church Camouflaged amidst the falling snow was the little white country church. All Christmas like it stood as the flag flapping in the wind at full mast called all those passersby to attention.

GOOD NEWS

The grey heron has a unique way of defending itself when attacked by an eagle, falcon, or some other predator. It simply stands quiet and firm and uses its bill as a sword. The predator is pierced as it forces itself against the heron.

MCC BOYS PLAY WELL BUT LOSE TO LAKERS

The MCC boys’ basketball team would be in action for the home opener Tuesday night as the C and B squads would each get their first action of the year and the varsity would compete in their third contest of the season.

SALARY INCREASES CONSIDERED

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, December 14 in a session delayed by one week to allow the members to attend the Annual Meeting of the Association of MN Counties. Open Forum was used by the Slayton Driftbreakers snowmobile club to talk about funding sources for trail maintenance.
