By Norma Dittman Eighty members of the Busch family gathered together for a reunion on Saturday, July 11th, at the 125-year-old family farm, located five miles south of Fulda. The reunion was organized through a request from Carol Busch’s 92-year-old sister- in-law, Delores, of Lakeville, MN. She recalled the large reunion in 2001 when 250 people attended the farm’s centennial celebration. Knowing that the land has now been in the family for 125 years, Delores felt that it was time for another celebration.

The Slayton Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting businesses, organizations, churches, civic groups, families, and individuals to participate in the 2026 Prairie Days Parade, which will be held Saturday, August 15, at 1:00 p.m. in downtown Slayton.

Slayton City Council participated in a lengthy discussion at Monday night’s meeting regarding their capital improvement plans. Following the discussion, a motion was made and passed to call for a public hearing for the adoption of a five-year Capital Improvement Plan and the intention to issue General Obligation Bonds in an aggregate amount not to exceed $1,950.000. If passed, when voted upon, the capital improvements would be the construction of a new public works department shop and fire hall addition.

It took more than an hour of discussion, but the Murray County Commissioners accepted a high bid of $338,000 for the old highway department property located on Highway 30 on Tuesday, July 21 after the online auction listing closed the evening before. The winning bidder was not disclosed during the meeting.

By John Stenen When I was a young minister of the gospel about fifty years ago; I was advised by a wonderful man of God to flee from pursuing the three ‘G’s’. He said to me, “Flee from pursuing the gold, the glory, and Gloria.” The combination of those three have been the down-fall of many gospel ministries. It has destroyed families and torn Churches apart. It is good advice for any man, whether he is in the ministry or not. Scripture tells us that we are to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto us.” (Mt. 6:33). Scripture also tells us that if we choose to live in immorality, we will not inherit the Kingdom of God, So, be faithful to your wife and leave Gloria. We also should understand that all the praise and glory is to be given to our Lord Jesus Christ for what He did for us on the Cross. The apostle Paul said, “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” We must walk with the Lord in humility. God bless.
