The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has announced over $1.4 million in childcare economic development grants, including $100,000 to Wonder World Preschool.
“I can now share that Wonder World Preschool has been awarded a $100,000 DEED grant from the state of MN,” Wonder World Board member Ashley Haken posted on Facebook recently. “These funds will offset some of the supplies/ equipment for building.”
Awarded to 11 programs and organizations around the state, the grants are projected to support the creation of more than 1,100 new childcare slots. More than 80% of the awarded funds will go toward programs in Greater Minnesota.
DEED’s Child Care Economic Development Grant program provides funding to organizations and communities to invest in new or expanding childcare businesses, including facility improvements, worker training, attraction, retention and licensing, and other strategies to reduce the childcare shortage.
“I can say I am so grateful for the grants we have received, support from the City of Slayton and Murray County as well as many area businesses and individuals who have helped to make this project possible,” Haken stated via Facebook.
Progress on the new building near the pool in Slayton has been moving forward steadily.
