Slayton City Council participated in a lengthy discussion at Monday night’s meeting regarding their capital improvement plans. Following the discussion, a motion was made and passed to call for a public hearing for the adoption of a five-year Capital Improvement Plan and the intention to issue General Obligation Bonds in an aggregate amount not to exceed $1,950.000. If passed, when voted upon, the capital improvements would be the construction of a new public works department shop and fire hall addition.
The public hearing has been set for Thursday, August 6, 2026, a6 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Under unfinished business, demolition of the house located at 2719 Mill Street was approved. Several options concerning the property were reviewed prior to the council’s unanimous vote.
Slayton City Council accepted the resignation of Scott Broekel from the fire department, and approved full-time firefighter status for Trevor Giesen.
An Agreement for Professional Services, provided by DGR Engineering for the 34th Street Reconstruction was reviewed by the council and approved.
Resolution #07-20-2026 was adopted. The resolution appoints election judges for the 2026 State Primary Election on August 11.
Currie Town and Country Boosters, Inc. was granted approval for a gambling permit for August 14, 2026.
Mayor Miron Carney was designated through a passed motion as the signer for the Natural Gas bank accounts.
The council’s next meeting will be Monday, August 3rd, 2026, 6 p.m. at Slayton City Hall.
