2022 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY GIRLS STATE

The Slayton American Legion Auxiliary would like to invite all MCC Junior Girls to participate in the “The Girls State” program. It is an opportunity to meet other girls from all over the State of Minnesota and learn all about State government.

Nobles Cooperative Electric is offering high school students a chance of a lifetime through the Youth Tour Contest. A free trip to Washington, D.C. This contest is open to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors attending school in Murray and Nobles Counties. Seniors that apply also have an opportunity to win a $500 scholarship!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FREE THROW CONTEST

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2022 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Murray County Central high school gym in Slayton. Registration starts at 12:30. Boys and girls will start shooting at 1:00 p.m. There is no fee to participate.

OLIVIA KLUMPER NAMED PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR

Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is pleased to announce that Olivia Klumper of Walnut Grove has earned the Presidential Scholarship for Academic Year 2021-22 - designed to help make an Augustana education more affordable. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated academic excellence and plan to major in a science-related field. The student must possess an ACT score of 27 or a 3.7 grade point average. Recipients are selected based on interviews with the Augustana University science faculty and student representatives.

PETROGLYPHS AND PETROFORMS OF SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA IS THE TOPIC FOR HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S JANUARY LUNCHBOX LECTURE

The Murray County Historical Society invites the public to attend its January Dinehart Lunchbox Lecture on Thursday, January 13th in the 4-H building on the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton starting at noon. The cost of the talk is $3.00 per person or Historical Society members get in free. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch and beverages and light snacks are provided.

MCMC BOARD REVIEWS NOVEMBER FIGURES

The Murray County Medical Center Board met on December 22, 2021. CFO Robyn Van Heuvelen presented the statistics for the month of November. Total income was $1,446,962 with expenses shown as $1,271,651. Covid program funds increased the income to $2,846,052. Payments totaling $476,589 have been made in 2021 on the long -term debt leaving a balance of $2,288,866.
