GREEN THUMB

This week’s column will close out the year. Many things need to be completed and in a hurry. As for our gardening we have many memories of how the year

As for our gardening we have many memories of how the year went. Generally they are good ones - with the produce we raised and events we went to.

We did miss the meetings at Lamberton. Hopefully they will resume in 2022. And other places too.

This past week has always been the rush to get bills paid so they count on this year’s business. And this year too. Also we mail or deliver our final charity donations of the year. And then look forward to the coming year.

One gardening catalogue has already arrived. More will come of course. This will give us something to do during the winter. Orders placed now will be shipped when ready - seeds now and live plants just in time for planting.

One thing we look for in the catalogs - what’s new this year. Usually new varieties of vegetables. Bushes and trees are interesting too, especially fruit trees.

On a side not if you need to add a few trees to your local forest, you might consider a tax deductible donation to the Arbor Day Foundation requesting trees to plant. (Phone: 800-448-7337)

We are considering some new fruit trees - especially the 5-in-1 type. Hopefully they will produce okay. More about next year’s garden, yard, and forest in future columns.

Back home, be sure to water your house plants. They might need a little extra care too. And turn them so another side sees the outside.

Otherwise, we wish you a Happy New Year and here’s to your gardening for next year too. Until next week.
