AREA VOTERS APPROVE MURRAY COUNTY CENTRAL OPERATING LEVY

Murray County Central Superintendent Joe Meyer extended his heartfelt thanks Tuesday night to district residents for approving the operating levy referendum on November 4. Vote totals were 548 YES, and 510 NO (52% to 48%) “We are incredibly grateful for our community’s continued support,” Meyer said. “This approval allows us to maintain our current programs, keep class sizes reasonable, and continue providing high-quality learning opportunities for our students.”

Meyer emphasized the importance of community partnerships in sustaining strong schools.

“This vote shows how much our community values education and believes in investing in our kids and their future,” he said.

Canvassing of the elections will take place at the November 10th regular school board meeting.

MCC’s operating levy was one of the lowest in the area at $626 per student. Comparatively, the Fulda School District is at $2,300 per student, and Westbrook-Walnut Grove is at $1,450 per student. With the passage of the November 4 operating levy, the per pupil authorization will go to $1,310.69.

The new referendum revenue authorization would be first levied in 2025 for taxes payable in 2026 and applicable for ten (10) years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.

The property tax portion of the revenue authorized will require an estimated referendum tax rate of 0.21869 percent. Agricultural property will pay taxes for the referendum based only on the value of the house, garage and one acre of land. Seasonal recreational residential property (i.e., cabins) will pay no taxes for the proposed referendum.
