DINEHART LUNCHBOX LECTURE TO HOST DAN PETERSON, ON HIS BOOK “TAKINI: THE STORY OF JULIA SILSBY (WRIGHT/LLOYD/ COLE).” The Murray County Historical Society invites the public to attend its February Lunchbox Lecture on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, in the 4-H building on the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton starting at noon. This month’s lecture will feature local historian Dan Peterson.

GRANT FUNDING CONCERNS BROUGHT TO COMMISSIONERS

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on February 4, 2025. Murray County Medical Center CEO Luke Schryvers presented his monthly report of activities to the Board. End of the year statistics were great, according to Schryvers. Acute admissions, Swing bed days, observation stays, surgeries, ER visits and Clinic visits were above 2024 numbers. The current available cash is over $10M. The end of the year saw a positive net income of $554,747. Debt has decreased to $1.25M with the mortgage from the last remodel slated for final payment in 2027. Plans are being made to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the February 1, 1951 first admission to the facility next year in 2026. MCMC will continue to participate in the SW MN Private Industry Council’s internship program. Three college students were hosted in 2024.

(2/3/2025)— On January 29, Seth Naeve, University of Minnesota Extension soybean agronomist and Anibal Cerrudo, a visiting professor for the last 3 years in the Naeve lab joined UMN Extension crops educator Angie Peltier for a discussion about how using crop modeling can help soybean producers in Minnesota gain important insights into how their management choice could impact yield. This was the fourth weekly episode of the 2025 Strategic Farming: Let’s talk crops! webinars. The series runs through March.

SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVE HIRING OF NEW POLICE OFFICER

The Slayton City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025. With all members present, they approved the agenda with one addition, as well as, the minutes from the last meeting, with one correction and the claims for the month.
