The Minnesota Twins will conduct a free Play Ball! Minnesota youth baseball clinic in Slayton, MN. The clinic will take place at Bicentennial Park and will feature two different sessions: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., or 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the clinic will be relocated to Murray County Central High School. Presented by Great River Energy and hosted by Nobles Cooperative Electric, Play Ball! Minnesota youth clinics are for boys and girls ages 6-12. Participants are required to register for this free clinic at www.playballmn.com. Play Ball! Minnesota instructors will provide all the necessary equipment for the clinic; however, players should bring their gloves. The Play Ball! Minnesota Youth Clinics are available to participants and communities free of charge; funding is provided by the Twins Community Fund and Great River Energy. “For more than 60 years, Twins youth clinics have provided baseball instruction to young players in communities throughout Twins Territory,” said Kristin Rortvedt, Executive Director of the Twins Community Fund. “We’re proud to continue this tradition for a new generation of ballplayers.” Created in 1961 by longtime Twins scout Angelo Giuliani, the clinic program serves to promote baseball and softball to boys and girls throughout the region. This summer the three parishes of Saints Ann, Columba and Mary in Slayton, Iona and Lake Wilson formed a group to bring exciting events to the communities. The hope is to have an event, planned by this group (if you belong to one of the three parishes you are invited to join in the planning), every other month starting in July.

Several years ago, I read the story of a few Christian ladies who got together each week for prayer. As time went on, they felt led of the Lord to go into different communities and do street witnessing. One evening as they were out witnessing and passing out tracts to whoever would give them a few minutes of their time to hear the gospel, one of the ladies received a vision of an apartment building and its address. “Ladies” she said, “The Holy Spirit just showed me a building with its address and apartment number; we must go there.” The building wasn’t far away so they went there, knocked on the door and heard a feeble voice of a man say, “Come in.” An elderly man was confined to his bed. They shared with him why they were there and that the Lord wanted them to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him. He told them that he had been told that he had only a few days to live and appreciated the ladies coming. He was not a Christian, but after hearing the good news of Jesus and the salvation He offered; the man received Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Its past mid-July for sure. At the beginning of the month we were concerned about the corn being knee-high. Now its past shoulder high and we are looking for the tassels, then the new ears and finally finished corn ears. Soon we will have sweet corn from the area gardens even if only small ears. By the end of August the sweet corn stands will be plentiful giving some kids income and corn for the table.
