By Jenny Kirk Nestled high on a hill overlooking Beaver Creek and roughly midway between Hadley and Slayton is a Murray County farm with a remarkable family history that goes back 150 years. Embrick Engebretson officially homesteaded 160 acres there nearly 15 years before the village of Slayton was even incorporated.

Decorated in fall hues and with the last thoughts of summer, the Murray County Fairgrounds is the location of the annual Slayton Women of Today’s Autumn Boutique. This 31st annual event will be held on Friday, September 8th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 9th from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton, Minnesota. During this two-day event this small community located on Highways 30 & 59 is transformed into a dynamic shopping haven.

Question: Hello, I am part of a group sponsoring a family from the Ukraine. They arrived a couple weeks ago and we have met with the state offices to get them lined up with social security numbers, work permits, etc. The husband and wife both have current driver licenses from Ukraine. They want to obtain a Minnesota license and are scheduled for the written knowledge exam, followed by the road test.

The Pipestone Master Gardeners invite all area gardeners, homeowners, and anyone interested in learning more about apple trees to attend the 2023 Fall Garden Tour.
