LETTER TO THE EDITOR A BIG thank you to EVERYONE who worked so hard to make the Tribute to Veterans and the Murray County Fair such memorable occasions! It makes me proud to be from this area. Rosemary LeTendre LETTER TO THE EDITOR Having just returned home from the Murray County Fair, let me begin with WOW! I believe thank you’s are in order.

SLAYTON PUBLIC LIBRARY TO BE CLOSED DURING REMODEL

The Slayton Public Library will be remodeling and closed September 8 thru October 8. Patrons might want to stock up on books for this extended period of time. Patrons may call the library at 8368778 to leave a message to request specific titles that will be checked out and placed on a table in the front entryway with the patron’s name on the items. The only sections available during this time will be the DVD’s, adult mystery, adult general fiction, large print, paperback romance, and new materials, all other sections will be unavailable. We will be able to order Plum Creek books and receive weekly deliveries. We will not order MNLink books during this time. The outside book drops will be available for returns as usual. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Please call the library for further information.

ONE AND DONE FOR THE BUTTERMAKERS

By Mark Zinnel- Buttermaker Reporter Hadley opened the Minnesota State Amateur Tournament when they faced the Elrosa Saints in Dassel. Just like previous State appearances, Hadley would once again be bounced out in the opening round in another heart-breaking loss. Here is the game recap: ELROSA 4 vs HADLEY 3 Nobody expected much from the Buttermakers against a young Elrosa Saints squad, but the Buttermakers held their own. The Buttermakers had the ballpark rooting for them as underdogs as they and had a chance to pull an opening round upset.

STRATEGIC FARMING: FIELD NOTES TALKED SOYBEAN CONDITION AND CROP DISEASE

The drought affects crop conditions as well as the potential for disease development. Dr. Seth Naeve, Extension soybean agronomist, traveled Minnesota recently assessing the soybean crop. Despite the drought, soybeans are looking reasonably good. However, we are living “paycheck to paycheck” in terms of soil moisture and need rain for the crop to develop and yield.
