New school meal standards announced last week by the USDA include major steps to promote the health of America’s children through school meals. The new standards will be gradually updated to include less sugar and more flexibility in menu planning between Fall 2025 and Fall 2027, according to the USDA announcement.

The Murray County Central Rebel Softball team was on the road Thursday for their only game of the week. The Rebels took on the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The Wolverines have a very different roster than they did a year ago and a new coaching staff. The new-look MLAC team has had some early season struggles and the Rebels would add to them on Thursday as MCC would pick up their sixth win of the season.

The Rebels competed in their first of four varsity conference meets this past Thursday. The boys stayed in Slayton, while the girls traveled to Sanborn. The wind was brutal at both courses. All the golfers had to factor the wind into every shot they took.

VS. MLAC The MCC Rebel Baseball team was at home on Thursday taking on the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area Comfrey in a Red Rock Conference showdown.

With the end of the year approaching, the fourth grade team at Murray County Central would like to extend the deepest thank you to the forty- four community members who took time out of their days every other week to build a relationship with their fourth grade “buddy”. Words can’t express how much our fourth graders enjoyed the time they spent together, the conversations that they had, and the books they read. For anyone who isn’t familiar with the Lunch Buddy program, it began back in 2001 by Sharon Henderson. Her goal was for students to have someone to read and discuss a novel with. Beyond reading with them, our volunteers also have real life conversations with the students while eating lunch which is a learning experience for many of them as well. If you have interest in volunteering to be a “Lunch Buddy” (October through April) twice a month, please contact the fourth grade team at MCC elementary as they will be in need of another ten to fifteen volunteers.
