MULTI-GENERATIONAL FARM TRANSITION RETREATS

Three hands-on educational retreats focused on multi-generational farm transition are being offered across Minnesota. Multiple generations, spouses, partners and/or other relevant parties of family farms are encouraged to attend the Farm Transition Retreats together for a deep dive into conversations about family and business goals.

EFFORTS TO CONTINUE FOR ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

By Joanne Bergman The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter presented a list of payments for drainage ditch repairs in the total amount of $32,062.37. Those costs will be paid from the funds available in the fund for each of the individual ditches receiving repairs. The next item was to discuss the future funding for ditches with large improvement expenses. It may be necessary to bond for the expense of redetermining benefits along with the future improvement of CD 41. That cost is estimated at slightly over $3M. No decision was made at this meeting on a future bond.

MCC CELEBRATES WIN OVER RRC

The Murray County Central Rebels were back at home Tuesday night taking on the Red Rock Central Falcons. One night after the Rebels lost to the Lakeview Lakers, the Rebels had a chance to get back on the winning track against the struggling Falcons who have just 12 players out for basketball in 9th-12th grades. The Falcons have struggled to a 1-10 record on the season and the Rebels were looking to add to their loss column.

MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES FALL 2023 DEAN’S LIST

Morningside University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Chris Spicer announced the 432 students named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 202324 academic year. The Dean’s List recognizes Morningside students who achieve a 3.67-grade point average or better and complete at least 12 credits of coursework with no grade below a “C-.” Students that achieved a 4.0-grade point average are denoted with an asterisk (*).

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE ANNOUNCES FALL 2023 DEAN’S LIST

More than 3,400 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the fall 2023 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

REBELS LOSE TO LAKEVIEW

The MCC Rebels were on the road Monday night to start a busy week on the hardcourt. The Rebels would play three games in five days playing in Cottonwood Monday against the Lakeview Lakers and then will follow with games in Slayton against Red Rock Central and Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The Rebels week got off to a rough start on Monday.

GIRLS WIN OVER HLOF AT HOME

The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team has been trying to claw their way back to the 500 mark this season, after an early five-game losing streak. The Rebels were hoping to take another step toward that number with a win over HLOF on Thursday night. The Rebels and the Coyotes met earlier this season in Fulda and the Rebels got their second win of the year. The Rebels losing streak would begin after that game. The Coyotes are still looking for their first win of the year as they have begun the season with 10 straight losses. The Rebels would get one win away from 500 with a win on Thursday night.

Happy New Year 2024 I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday break and I wish everyone a Happy New Year, 2024. At the time of this writing, we have used our first “snow day” of the school year.
