The Slayton Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the return of the beloved holiday tradition, Light Up Gullord Park, now in its third year! We invite businesses, organizations, and individuals to join us in making Gullord Park shine bright this holiday season by decorating a spot in the park. Last year’s lighting ceremony saw a fantastic turnout, with over 80 cars visiting within the first two hours. Let’s make this year even more magical!

On 11/12/2024 at 0819 hours, Murray County IT Director notified the Murray County Sheriff about a threatening email regarding a bomb being placed in the Murray County Government Center. The Murray County Sheriffs Office and Murray County Emergency Management immediately evacuated the Government Center and contacted Murray County Central Schools and advised the school of the possible threat, Murray County Central School was placed on a brief lockdown Murray County Sheriff’s Office and Slayton Police Department staff created a perimeter around the Government Center and began a search of the building. A search of the building didn’t reveal anything suspicious or suspected of being an explosive device. At about 0942am Murray County Emergency Management contacted the school and advised them everything was all clear. Murray County re-opened the Government Center at around 1030am. The Sheriff’s Office believes the email was part of an email hoax that occurred in multiple counties across the state of Minnesota and do not believe there is any on-going threat to the public.

Maike Houser and the Reilly Home Team (Keller Williams Preferred Realty), in partnership the West Central Association of Realtors collaborated to help reduce food insecurity in our community. On Thursday, November 7th, the Murray County Food Shelf was the delighted recipient of over 425 pounds of canned foods, personal hygiene items and dry goods, as well as $650 in monetary donations.
