PLANNING CONTINUES ON CSAH 13 The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on August 22, 2023. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter presented the bills for recently completed ditch repairs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is beginning to issue cost-share assistance payments through the Emergency Grain Storage Facility Assistance Program (EGSFP) for approved and funded applications that have met the requirements for partial or final payment. FSA first announced $20 million for this program in March to help producers affected by eligible disaster events from Dec. 1, 2021, through Aug. 1, 2022, that damaged or destroyed large commercial grain elevators in eight Midwest states. Due to the high volume of program applications received, FSA has amended the original Notice of Funds Availability (NOFA) to increase the initial funding amount for EGSFP to $80 million in cost-share assistance.

The Pipestone National Monument is hosting a Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteer Training beginning August 21. Master Naturalist volunteers complete a 40-hour hands-on course with expert instructors and fellow learners – studying natural history, environmental interpretation and conservation stewardship.

A contract was approved with Lamar to provide two Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) billboards along Highway 59 in the amount of $9,360. The cost of the billboards located in Garvin and south of Slayton will be paid with grant funds.

Pipestone County’s next hybrid EMT certification class begins Tuesday, Sept. 5. The class includes a live lecture portion on Monday evenings from 6 – 10 p.m. at 811 5th St. SE in Pipestone. The class will also meet one Saturday per month at the same location for skills sessions during the 20-week program.

The Griemes wanted to address reasons why the district chose to hire an unlicensed school nurse for the upcoming academic year.
