COURT QUEEN OF PEACE

Court Queen of Peace met Oct. 24, 2023 at 6 PM at Divine Mercy Hall with 16 members present. Regent Amy Kathman called the meeting to order followed by prayer and flag pledge. In the absence of a recording secretary no report was given. Barb Minnehan reported 62 members with only 2 left to pay dues. Correspondence came from Shirley Legler. Amy left several cards for members to send a greeting to elderly and shut-ins. SOS chair, Jill McCord had a thank-you from Isaiah Olsem and named the new seminarians that we will sponsor: Jonathon Lanz, John Paul Phillips, Andrew Reiner and Randy Skeate. Amy will be speaking to the eligible youth for the Education Contest to be held 10/25. Legislative chair, Jan Bryan handed out copies of Advance Directives for members to review. Spirituality chair, Jeaneen Nelson presented the Mustard Seed meditation.

Unfinished business included a report on Gummi Bear sales with only a few left. CDA Sunday donuts, coffee and juice was well received. The Memorial Mass will be at 5:30, Nov. 16 with no members from Court St. Theresa and 3 from our Court. Court Queen of Peace will be serving the lunch. Robe surveys are still being taken either by paper or on line. Revisiting the donation to Maui was tabled. Deanna Konkol’s Prayer Quilt Squares Make and Take activity was termed a success and will probably be offered again.

New business: Saturday, 10/28 is Make a Difference Day. Amy prepared small candy bars to be given to a stranger indicating a CDA member was thinking of them. WRAP (White Ribbons Against Pornography) week is Oct. 29-Nov. 4. Ribbons will be handed out to parishioners the weekend of Oct. 28th. Handbag Silent Auction fundraiser was described. Possibilities are endless--Lady Luck (lottery/chance items), Sports Mom (snacks, sport items), Movie night (drink, popcorn). Kelly Nelson made a motion to take on the project. Motion passed. Amy needs to know by Nov. 16 how many handbags there will be. Handbags will be set out the weekend of Thanksgiving. Bidding will be ‘open’ for one week or until Dec. 3. Egg bake fund raiser on Dec 3 was discussed and Jeaneen Nelson and Kelly Nelson will co-chair the event. At least 12 members at the meeting volunteered to help with the event.

Kelly Nelson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20, a little long but much was accomplished. Joyce Wiekeraad from ACE of Southwest MN gave an overview of the services provided and opportunities for volunteering. The emphasis is on serving the older population in Murray County. The next meeting is Nov. 16.
