GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark Autumn is progressing for sure. Another sign of Fall is arriving daily - the leaves are falling off the trees. Some people will tidy up by raking up and disposing of the leaves, while others will leave the leaves on the ground to decay and become fertilizer for the trees.

The first snow is gone too. And we remember hearing annually of Indian Summer which was defined as warm weather after snow to allow the Indians to get the crops gathered and stored for the winter. And in two weeks we will have Thanksgiving.

When this writer grew up, it was customary to invite guests for the Thanksgiving dinner feast. Then some years later we started going to the Twin Cities the day after Thanksgiving to get some shopping done. More than once a good Christmas present was on sale and came home with us.

Nowadays the Thanksgiving feast may be at a local restaurant, treating our neighbors. Then to make plans for Christmas.

Among other things Thanksgiving has been a time to give thanks for the year being completed. Our computer has been most helpful in helping here summarizing the year financially and deciding what and where we can make end of year donations to. More in future columns. And back home as usual be sure to water your house plants.

Until next week.
