MICHELLE ZENK OF HADLEY EARNS UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN DEGREES

Michelle Susan Zenk of Hadley was among 3,484 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln during commencement exercises May 3, 17 and 18. Zenk earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Communication with distinction from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

REBELS FALL TO KNIGHTS TWICE IN DOUBLE HEADER

The MCC Rebel Softball team played their final home games of the season on Thursday. Due to poor weather conditions earlier this season, the Rebels played host to the RTR Knights in a doubleheader. RTR has had a terrific first season in the Red Rock Conference, beating Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian in one of their two meetings. MCC had the chance to play a spoiler against the Knights by beating RTR in one of the two games. It was two good games in Slayton on Thursday, both of which would come down to the final innings.

REBELS FALL IN AN ODD ENDING TO THEIR FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON

The Rebels finished the regular season on Friday in Ellsworth, in what would become a strange event both in play and in outcome. This game was scheduled to be played earlier, but Mother Nature did not allow that to happen and she would be involved in this game as well.

LAKE AREA TECHNICAL COLLEGE 2024 GRADUATES

The 57th Annual Lake Area Technical College graduation ceremony was held Friday, May 10, 2024, with eight hundred six graduates. The following students were presented their diplomas by Tiffany Sanderson, President of Lake Area Tech.

WEED AND INSECT MANAGEMENT IN AN EXTENDED PLANTING SEASON

After a good start, wet conditions stalled planting across much of the state. Dr. Debalin Sarangi, Extension weed scientist, and Bruce Potter, Integrated Pest Management specialist at the Southwest Research and Outreach Center by Lamberton discussed weed and insect management challenges faced by growers this year due to an extended planting season during the May 8 Strategic Farming: Field Notes session.

MCC TRACK TEAM COMPETES IN RED ROCK CONFERENCE MEET

The 2024 Red Rock Conference Track & Field meet was held in Mountain Lake this year. Prior to the meet, the seniors from all eight conference teams were recognized for their time and commitment to their schools and programs.
