DEALING WITH STORM DAMAGED TREES

Recent storms throughout the state have caused major tree damage, and cleanup following a storm can be overwhelming. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has some tips on dealing with storm-damaged trees. Many communities also have resources and guidelines, especially after major storm events. Consider reaching out to your city, county or township to learn more.

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA VOLLEYBALL PLACES 1ST IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

Southwest Minnesota Volleyball (SWMNVB) based out of Marshall, MN sent 3 teams to Orlando Florida for the AAU Volleyball National Tournament. The SWMNVB 15-1 team placed 1st (National Champions) in the AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championship in the 15 Select Division.

SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES DRAFT CANNABIS BUSINESS ORDINANCE

The Slayton City Council is working on a draft ordinance for the regulation of cannabis, so a fair amount of their meeting July 7 was focused on the council’s wishes. City Administrator Josh Malchow had several questions for the council, so the draft can be crafted according to their wishes.

SURGICAL DAYS ADDED AT MURRAY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER

By Joanne Bergman Joint meetings were held with the Board of Commissioners from the counties of Cottonwood, Nobles and Lyon-Redwood on July 1st. Action was taken with each of the boards to establish a Joint Board to administer ditch systems that drain acres in each of the counties. In Cottonwood County these include JD5, JD22, JD23, and JD 24. In Nobles County JD7, JD20 and CD30 have acres draining into the ditch. In Redwood County the Commissioners voted to exclude the thirty-three acres involved.
