COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HOLD SHORT MEETING THIS PAST WEEK PRELIMINARY LEVY SET AT 4%

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, Sept.28, 2021. The agenda was approved with additions. There were no conflicts of interest and no one was present for Open Forum. Heidi Winter was first on the agenda with the ditch bills. Ditch bills were approved for three vendors: Larson Backhoe Service, Prairie View Farms and Rinke Noonan. The Board also approved payments to H2Over Viewers for their contract to complete a county-wide redetermination of benefits on all un-redetermined drainage systems over a 3-year period. Heidi explained the expected schedule of payments. It was decided that these bills would be paid in an Auditor’s Batch as the invoices came in.

Answer: Minnesota State Statute 169.69 states: “Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order which blends the exhaust noise into the overall vehicle noise and is in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a street or highway. The exhaust system shall not emit or produce a sharp popping or crackling sound.

MURRAY COUNTY FOUNDATION SETS 2021-22 SCHOLARSHIP GOAL

Murray County Foundation representatives Judy La- Boda and Nancy Laible met recently at Murray County Central High School with Counselor Mary Beech. The Foundation has set a goal to raise $10,000 for its 2021-22 school year scholarship fund. Some of the scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and some are based on economic need.

TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

United Way of Southwest Minnesota is kicking off our annual fundraising campaign in September. As United Way staff discussed our marketing efforts and how we’d like to get the word out this year, one thing was certain. We need to find a way to better explain what we do. This led us to comparing what we do in our communities to a theater production.

This year the theme is A “Beary” Merry Christmas in honor of returning the carved bears back to the Dinehart House staircase! We encourage you to decorate a tree, area of the home, or even a whole room. Use your imagination to come up with something fun with a bear related theme! The trees will be provided by the Murray County Museum.
