Norma Dittman has joined the staff of the Murray County Wheel/Herald and will be working part-time on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office at 2309 Broadway Avenue, Slayton, MN. “We’re very excited to have Norma join us,” stated Wheel/ Herald Editor Justine Wettschreck.

During the August 26 Murray County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Heath Landsman informed the board of a donation of $5,400 for Hazmat equipment through Nobles Coop Electric and a cooperating grant agency. This equipment replaces the outdated items now in use. The donation was accepted by the board.

By Allie Paulzine The Slayton City Council gathered for their regular meeting, opening with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present, and the council approved the agenda and the minutes from the August 5 meeting without changes. Claims were reviewed and approved. Council members shared updates on ongoing city projects, including local infrastructure improvements, community events, and utility services. Excel Energy announced a planned power outage Thursday night, expected to last about four hours, to improve transmission line reliability in partnership with Great River Energy. Residents will be notified through CodeRED, Facebook, and the city website. The council also noted a tour of the newly expanded Nobles Cooperative Electric facility, highlighting its modern features and expected benefits for the community.

The MCC Rebel Volleyball team opened their season on Tuesday night with one of the top teams in the area, the Canby Lancers. The Rebels and Lancers have played one another in the first game of the season heading back to the Covid shortened season and the two teams have played one another years before that and in most of those matchups the Lancers have beat the Rebels 3-0. That would not be the case on Tuesday as the Rebels would show some grit and determination to take one game from the Lancers.
