On Tuesday, July 14th, US Navy Veteran, Neal Gilbertson, Lake Wilson, received his Quilt of Valor in a private ceremony attended by his wife. Neal served two years active duty in the US Navy - 19681970, as a Seaman E-3. After his 2 years of active duty, Neal served 14 years in the reserves achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. While on active-duty, Neal was stationed in Vietnam as a machine gunner on a small boat on the Mekong River. Neal received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal along with other awards. Neal, thank you for your service.

Community donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the end of 2026 Wonder World Preschool and Invenergy announced a fundraising match effort supporting the preschool’s capital campaign funding their new facility and essential childcare services. Invenergy has committed an initial $10,000 donation to the Wonder World Preschool Seeds of Wonder capital campaign and will provide a dollar-for-dollar match on community donations up to an additional $20,000, creating the opportunity to generate as much as $50,000 in total support for the counties’ only childcare center.

By Miron Carney What started as a COVID-19 workaround in 2021 has become an Ecumenical summer tradition. This past Sunday hundreds of worshipers from English, Trinity, St. Olaf, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Churches of Walnut Grove, Rural Ann Township, and Dovray; Grace and Trinity Lutheran Churches of Westbrook; Tracy and Walnut Grove United Methodist Churches; Highwater and Old Westbrook Lutheran Churches of Rural Westbrook and Lamberton; Tracy Lutheran Church; and out of town visitors gathered in praise at Painted Prairie Vineyard near Dovray. Congregations from four counties lifted their voices in praise.

At the meeting, the foundation awarded funds to five local groups, including Murray County Central 2026 Scholarships, Murray County Central 2026 Fall Play, Shetek Lutheran Ministries, Slayton Community Christmas, and the Murray County Food Shelf.
