October 1 Edgerton at MCC
The MCC Rebel Volleyball team has been on a hot streak, but on Tuesday night they took a 3-0 loss to the Westbrook Walnut Grove Chargers. With a tough week coming up against two of the top teams in the Red Rock Conference, Thursday’s game against Edgerton was very important to bounce back and get a victory and have as much positive momentum heading into the coming week. The Rebels would not just get a win - they would dominate in the fastest moving game of the year.
The Flying Dutchmen have struggled this season with a very young varsity team that lacks size. The Rebels took advantage of that, picking up their ninth win of the year.
They came out fast, building an early 10-point lead on what was a 25 to 12 set one win. The Rebels got some big shots from Reese Gilbertson, but some balance from Kat Miller, Erynn Rohrer, and Brielle Plotz. The second set and third were faster yet. The Rebels took care of business in set two with Chloe Kremer getting into the action with a couple of big kills and a nice block. The Rebels would win 25 to 10 and completed the sweep in set 3, dominating in a 25 to 8 victory.
The Rebels were led by Reese Gilbertson who finished the game with 10 kills while adding 20 digs and 2 aces. Erynn Rohrer finished with 5 4 kills and 18 assists. Aubrey Bielgler led the team with 3 aces and had 11 assists. It was a strong performance by the Rebels - a game they needed to win. The Rebels will host the RTR Knights on Tuesday night before traveling to Adrian on Thursday to take on the Dragons.
October 6 RTR at MCC
The MCC Rebel Volleyball team was at home on Tuesday night taking on the top team in the Red Rock Conference. The RTR Knights have not lost a Red Rock Conference game since September 19, 2024 when they lost to WWG. From that point on the Knights have been perfect. The Rebels were hoping to end that streak and hand them their first loss of the year in the Red Rock Conference, but that was not to be.
The Rebels played one of their best sets of volleyball this year in the opening set. The largest lead either team had was 3 points. The lead bounced back and forth as Reese Gilbertson and Brynn Borresen dueled. The Rebels led 24 to 23 and had a set point to take the game, just to see the Knights score the last three points of the game to take the set 26 to 24. The Rebels struggled much of set 2 as the Knights dominated. RTR did nearly everything right, while the Rebels struggled in nearly every area. Late in the set the Knights went ahead two sets to nothing with a 25 to 12 win. The Rebels rebounded in the third set with a strong effort. MCC led 17 to 13 midway through the set, just to see RTR go on a big run. The Rebels could not get a key kill or big serve and RTR completed the sweep 25 to 19.
The Rebels were led in kills by Reese Gilbertson, who also led the team in aces. Kat Miller had a strong game, as did Avery Thovson. In the end the Rebels could not come up with enough big shots. Brynn Borresen led the game with 12 kills and played extremely well at the net. The Rebels will take on another of the top teams in the Red Rock Conference when they travel to Adrian on Thursday night.
