The Murray County Historical Society is excited to announce the lineup of speakers for the 2021-2022 Lunchbox Lecture Series. This year’s lectures will be held in person at the 4-H Building on the Murray County Fair Grounds. The cost to attend lectures is $3.00 and free for historical society members. Bring your lunch. The public is invited attend the annual meeting of the Murray County Historical Society on Sunday, October 17th at 2 PM. The event will be held in the Currie town council room at 801 Third Street. The featured speaker for this event is Dr. Lloyd Petersen, professor emeritus from Southwest Minnesota State University. He will present “Stories of World War II.” A short business meeting will follow the presentation and pie and coffee will be served.

Court Queen of Peace met Tuesday, Sept. 28 beginning with Mass followed by a light supper for 16 members served by Jill McCord, Karen Juenemann and their committee. Father Thien Nguyen led the opening prayer after which the secretary and treasurer’s reports were read. Jean Eich, financial secretary, has sent letters to the 10 members who still owe dues but has not had a response yet.

During a mammogram, the patient stands in front of a special x-ray machine. A radiologic technician places your breasts, one at a time, between an x-ray plate and a plastic plate. These plates are attached to the x-ray machine and compress your breasts to flatten them. This allows the breast tissue to spread out so that your provider can get a clearer picture of the tissue. You will feel pressure on your breasts for a few seconds, and it may cause mild discomfort as if being squeezed or pinched. Most often, two images of each breast are taken- one from the side, and one from above. A mammogram screening takes approximately 20 minutes from start to finish.

Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) in the Slayton area, sponsored by Second Harvest Heartland distribution will be held at the office of A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota – Murray County at 2989 Maple Rd., Slayton MN. National 4-H Week is being celebrated locally and nationally this week. Across the United States, 4-H empowers nearly 6 million young people through hands-on learning. In Minnesota, more than 66,000 young people take part in 4-H and the organization’s impact is felt throughout the state. For instance, last year:

Medicare beneficiaries and their family members will learn about changes in Medicare for the coming year and how it could affect their benefits. An overview of the Medicare program, benefits and plan options for the new year will be provided. This presentation is offered in the fall of each year.
