The Murray County Medical Center Board met on October 27. The board consists of County Commissioners Jim Kluis and Molly Malone, along with lay members Lenore Wendorff, Bill Wassenaar, Jerry McCord. Medical appointments presented included the reappointment of Daniel Bequillard, PA to the Emergency Room staff. In further remarks in his report, Dr. Steve Snow, stated that 80% of staff, including EMS, were vaccinated for Covid.

The Murray County Central drama and music departments are thrilled to present “The Wizard of Oz” in the MCC auditorium November 11, 12 and 13 at 7:00pm. The musical is directed by Isaac Harms, with assistance from Christie Gergen and Michael Helgeson. Students fill nearly every position of acting, staging, lights, sound and orchestra and they have been working hard for weeks to prepare an outstanding show.

A call to the plumber netted the following information: they are overbooked and working 7-day weeks for everything from plugged drains to furnace heaters. This reminds us with the cool weather that out outside requirements need doing - and promptly.

A tourist lost his footing and fell into the Dead Sea from a high area along the shore. He could not swim and desperately fought to keep from drowning. In a short time he was exhausted and believed he was going to drown. As he could struggle no more, he found that he could not sink. He had not known that the salt content was so heavy that it prevented him from going under.

Slayton Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1951 by a group of Slayton men noticing the need to help the children and youth of this community. This was the start of a tradition that continues today, seventy years later. In the 1980’s women were invited to join. They currently meet the first and third Wednesday of every month at 12 noon at the Plaid Moose. New members are welcome.

Hospice of Murray County will hold a bereavement group for adults at the Hospice of Murray County office in Slayton. It is for six sessions on Tuesdays and will begin on Tuesday, November 2 and will continue through Tuesday, December 7 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

Broken Pieces The small earth toned rock stood solid amidst the other cobble stones upon the road. This particular day I was looking for heart rocks, but as I bent down to pick one up, my eye caught sight of another little gem.
