GOOD NEWS

By John Stenen Many people view Christianity as just another religion. How wrong they are! Our world is full of religion. Religion is man doing his best with all their various rules and laws trying to earn their salvation; trying to earn favor with God, hoping that at the end of their lives the good will out-weigh the bad. That kind of belief will never get you into heaven. In Romans 9:30-32, Paul lets us know that the Jewish people did not receive righteousness, (right standing with God), because they tried to earn it by trying to keep the Law, which they could never do. The Law was intended to point us to Jesus Christ, (Galatians 3:21-25). Paul also says in Rom. 9: that the Gentiles received righteousness because by faith they received Jesus Christ into their hearts and were saved. Christianity is knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; not just knowing about Him. It’s having a close relationship and fellowship with Him - Walking with Him each day, studying His Word and obeying Him. Before I was saved in 1972 I seldom ever thought about a God, but since knowing Him, He’s on my mind all the time, and I talk to Him each day. He has wonderfully changed my life. My desires are not worldly like they used to be and life is truly worth living for Him. Read John 3:16 again and open your heart and invite Him in. God bless.

Ask A Trooper

Question: In my community and on my daily commute I encounter two roundabouts each morning, others that I work with will encounter three roundabouts in less than five minutes. Please use your platform to remind drivers how to safely and properly use a roundabout. I see, almost on a daily basis, drivers physically stop their vehicle for other drivers that have not even entered the roundabout. They’ll allow multiple vehicles to traverse the roundabout before they even attempt to enter the roundabout. This creates a very dangerous situation as my assumption is that the vehicle will slow to begin entering the roundabout and then safely enter, but when they slam on their brakes, it then causes me the need to adjust and brake abruptly, even when slowing to 20mph or whatever the posted speed limit is. To cite Minnesota’s own website... “Yield to vehicles already in the roundabout.” Roundabouts are meant to keep the flow of traffic moving at a safe constant speed, not disrupt the flow with drivers stopping. If possible, please be clear about what is considered safe driving in a roundabout and what is not.

The subject was discussed several months ago and again just weeks ago, with Commissioners Dennis Welgraven and Jackie Meier pushing for an administrator, while Commissioners Roger Zins and Mark Carlson want a coordinator. Commissioner Loy Woelber says the title isn’t as important but believes a coordinator is a better fit.
