GAME #2 FRIDAY, JUNE 12 MCC VS. MADELIA
The Rebels were in the Minnesota State Baseball Tournament Semi Finals for the first time in school history. The Murray County Central Rebels, the 4th seeded team was set to take on the top seeded Madelia Blackhawks. The Rebels came into the State Tournament with one of the best records in all classes with just one loss on the year. With the Rebels playing their second game in less than 24 hours, things wouldn’t go their way.
Teague Meyer got the start for the Rebels on the mound and the senior looked great to start the game, sitting down the Blackhawks 1-2-3 with a pair of strikeouts. In the second inning, Madelia scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice bunt, to put Madelia ahead 1-0. In the third inning, Madelia would score again, this time on a pair of hit batters and a fielder’s choice. The Blackhawks blew the game open in the fourth inning. Madelia scored seven runs, all coming with 2 outs. Tristan Behrends came into the game in relief and held the Blackhawks without a run, but the damage was done.
The Rebels struggled at the plate, scoring just two runs in the game, while collecting 5 hits and drawing 3 walks. MCC put the ball in play, as they struck out just three times in the entire game, but the Rebels just couldn’t establish a threat in the game. Madelia fielded the ball well and they came up with the key hits in a 9-2 win.
Carson Lewis led the Rebels with 2 hits and 1 RBI in the game. Teague Meyer took the loss on the mound for the Rebels. Teague Meyer, Tristan Behrends, and Carter Hanson each had a hit for the Rebels along with the two by Lewis. The loss would send the Rebels into the third place game against South Ridge, the third seeded team in the tournament.
