By Student Reporter Allie Paulzine Another week has come and gone with two more successful meets for the MCC/F Warriors cross country team. This past Tuesday, September 14th the Warriors competed at the Marshall Cross Country Invitational and on Thursday, September 16th they competed at the Worthington Turkey Trot. At the Marshall meet, the girls team placed second with 45 points beating Canby/Minneota by 36 points but losing to Marshall. Only two days later, the Warriors won the Worthington Turkey Trot with 28 points beating Pipestone Area by 45 points. Amanda Overgaauw once again dominated both of her races this week placing first at both of the meets. At the Marshall Invitational she ran a time of 17:37 and at the Turkey Trot she ran a personal best of 17:24. Amanda’s twin sister Ashley Overgaauw also ran two very impressive races this past week. On Tuesday she placed fourth with a time of 19:35 and on Thursday she placed third with a time of 18:28. Junior Brylei Schreier also contributed to the Warrior’s success this past week placing 11th at the Marshall Invitational with a time of 20:55. At the Turkey Trot she placed 5th running a 20:11. Shortly after Brylei finished, Sophia Nelson (22:15) came running down the home stretch 16th in Marshall and placing eighth in Worthington with a time of 21:20. Running close behind Sophia at both meets was Megan Bakke (22:34) who placed 18th on Tuesday and had a successful meet on Thursday placing 11th. Close behind Megan was junior Lindsey Hause (23:02) who placed 22nd at the Marshall Invitational. Hause then placed 16th in Worthington with a time of 22:41. Rounding out the girls’ varsity race was Lily Daniels who placed 29th in Marshall running a time of 23:51. She then went and ran an equally successful race on Thursday with a time of 24:25 and placing 33rd.

The Murray County Central high school community is privileged to welcome two European students this school year to learn and grow and share their culture. Giulia Scharm and Adam Grimmer arrived several weeks ago and are settling into a rewarding and enriching experience.

The Slayton City Council met on Monday, September 19th. The agenda was approved along with the minutes from the Sept 6 meeting.

By Joanne Bergman The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Payment was approved for improvements on County Ditch 22. $20,424.63 covered the cost of construction management. $356,860.81 was paid for construction with $17,843.04 retained of the contract that totaled $377,521.52. Repair costs on Judicial Ditch 12 amounted to $3,896.70. The cost for Redetermination of benefits on numerous ditches in this payment was $7,221. The only new ditch repair petition was on County Ditch 34 in Ellsborough Township, Section 23.

Phyllis is a native of Slayton, Minnesota. She attended St. Cloud State College. Following that, she attended the Minneapolis School of Massage and Sister Rosalind School of Massage. Phyllis opened up her own massage business in Burnsville Minnesota and later developed a massage franchise that was the first in the entire nation. The business was named “Keep in Touch” as a living memorial to her son, Dan. He was killed in an accident three days before he was to graduate from college. He had always supported his mom’s dream to open her own massage business. She continued to operate the business along with her family for the next 32 years.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket and a free will donation, if you wish, and join us for a great evening!”

Slayton City Council met on Tuesday, September 6th. Council Member Harmsen was absent this week. Meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. The claims for the month were also reviewed and approved. The City Hall roof project has had the second phase completed.
