FAILED MOTION MAKES RIFLE HUNTING AVAILABLE FOR DEER SEASON IN MURRAY COUNTY

A motion to remain a shotgun-only county for deer hunting failed on Tuesday during a Murray County Commissioners meeting, meaning that rifles will be allowed during the 2026 season. Board Chair Mark Carlson led off the discussion by stating he had no strong feelings on the matter and would therefore act in a manner that represented the ratio of people who had contacted him to discuss the subject, adding that most of them were against allowing rifles.

MURRAY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE

Murray County Medical Center will host a community blood drive on Tuesday, February 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in support of local patients and the community’s blood supply. To schedule an appointment, donors may visit www.cbblifeblood. org, select “donate now,” “blood drive calendar,” choose February 3rd and click on “Murray County Medical Center” or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222. All blood donors will receive a $20 Subway gift card as a token of appreciation. “The demand for blood donations remains critically high at Community Blood Bank,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director. “A particularly intense cold and flu season has prevented many regular donors from giving blood, creating shortages that make it difficult to meet hospital needs. Blood requirements are constantly shifting and unpredictable, and maintaining a stable supply requires community volunteers to step forward with this life-saving gift. We welcome both new donors and returning supporters to join us on February 3rd. Every donation helps ensure we’re prepared for whatever comes our way this winter.”

JAIL AND BAIL IS BACK FOR SPRING EXPO

Murray County Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) is bringing back one of their favorite fundraisers and looking for volunteers to go to jail! Originally an event that took place during the Murray County Fair, residents would sit inside the ECI jail on the courthouse lawn and make phone calls, trying to raise at least $100 “bail” to get out. That money would go to support ECI endeavors, which include Touch-A-Truck, Wiggle-A-While, kid concerts, free books at a variety of events, FRED (Families Reading Every Day) events and more.

Ask A Trooper

Question: I travel a lot and I see a number of people making some poor choices when it comes to passing semis and large vehicles. There is no way these big rigs can stop in time when people do these unsafe maneuvers. Can you write about this?
