May 14 - Red Rock Conference Meet MCC Boys Capture Conference Crown, Girls Shine with Young Talent
The Murray County Central Rebels turned in a dominant performance at the Red Rock Conference Track and Field Championships, with the boys team capturing the conference title and the girls squad producing several standout performances against a strong field.
The MCC boys piled up 177.5 points to win the team championship over Hills-Beaver Creek (156.5) and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton (147). The Rebels used depth across nearly every event to secure the conference crown.
Leading the way on the track was senior Lucas Kuball, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.28 seconds, fifth in the 200 in 24.61, and fourth in the 400 in 53.82. Kuball also added a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, ½ inch.
MCC’s middle-distance group was especially strong. Junior Alexander Betz finished runner-up in the 800 meters in 2:08.23 and later added a fifthplace finish in the 1600 meters at 4:48.51. Henry Carlson tied for third in the 800 in 2:11.09 and also placed eighth in the triple jump at 35-0½. Brayden Gilb also shared third in the 800 with Carlson, running a personal- best 2:11.09.
The Rebels’ distance runners continued the momentum in the 3200 meters. Freshman Micah Janssen earned runnerup honors in 11:54.78, while eighth grader Carter Larson finished fourth in 12:15.28 and junior Wesley Hause took sixth in 12:17.94.
MCC dominated the hurdles competition behind sophomore Parker Olson. Olson placed third in the 110 hurdles in 18.11 and finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.56. Teammate Tyler Reith added fourth in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
In the relays, Murray County Central delivered one of its biggest highlights of the meet by winning the 4x400 relay. The team of Brayden Gilb, Beckett Stelter, Henry Carlson and Alexander Betz crossed the line in 3:36.83 to claim the conference championship.
The Rebels nearly added another relay title in the 4x200, where Caleb Rosenbrook, Dylan Gilbertson, Luke Iverson and Kolten Nielsen finished second in 1:42.15, just behind Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton. MCC also placed second in the 4x800 relay with Henry Carlson, Tyler Reith, Carter Larson and Brayden Gilb running 9:31.41.
In the field events, junior Caleb Rosenbrook earned a conference championship in the pole vault by clearing a personal-best 11-10. Luke Iverson placed fourth in the event at 9-4, while Aubin Licht finished fifth with a personal-best clearance of 9-4.
The Rebels also scored heavily in the jumps. Brett Pieske tied for third in the high jump at 5-6 and later finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 38-11. Dylan Gilbertson added sixth in the triple jump at 368¼, while Max Mathiason took eighth in the high jump and 12th in the long jump.
In the throwing events, Gabriel Wolske led MCC with a runner-up finish in discus at 138-0 and seventh in shot put at 415½. Broox Platt placed sixth in shot put and eighth in discus, while eighth grader Cyril Zenk competed well in both throws with a 17th-place finish in shot put and 10th in discus.
The Murray County Central girls finished seventh in the team standings with 53 points but produced several impressive individual efforts throughout the meet.
Eighth grader Charley Holm had an outstanding day for the Rebels. Holm sprinted to fourth place in the 100 meters in 14.36 seconds, finished second in the pole vault at 7-10, and took third in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 15-9.
Another top performer was seventh grader Kenslee Bobeldyk, who placed sixth in the 300 hurdles in 54.75 and helped the Rebels to a runner-up finish in the 4x400 relay. The team of Bobeldyk, Isabela Schreier, Kora Kremer and Charley Holm finished second in 4:28.29, narrowly behind Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
Schreier also added an impressive fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.99, while Holland Vogel contributed seventh-place finishes in both the 800 and 1600 meters.
The Rebels showed promising young talent across the board. Kora Kremer placed fourth in the pole vault, Chloe Kremer took fifth, and Madi Stelter earned 16th in the long jump while also running on the 4x200 relay team.
In the throws, seventh grader Olivia Heard placed 14th in shot put and ninth in discus, while Antonina Godlewska finished 21st in shot put and 12th in discus with a personal-best throw.
MCC’s young relay teams also gained valuable experience. The 4x100 team of Kora Kremer, Aubrey Biegler, Brecken Larson and Kiana Platt finished seventh, while the 4x200 team of Kenslee Bobeldyk, Cassie Scandrett, Madi Stelter and Kiana Platt placed seventh as well.
The conference meet capped off a strong season for the Murray County Central boys, whose balance and depth helped them secure the Red Rock Conference championship, while the girls continued to show growth with several young athletes earning top finishes and personal best performances.
May 15-16 State True Team Championships Rebels Compete Among State’s Best at Minnesota True Team Meet
The Minnesota State High School League Class A True Team State Track and Field Meet brought together many of the top programs in the state, and the Murray County Central Rebels boys team turned in a strong performance against elite competition.
Murray County Central finished 11th overall with 352 points in a loaded field that featured several of the state’s top-ranked Class A programs. Holdingford captured the team championship with 543.5 points, followed by Cotter/Hope Lutheran and St. Charles.
Senior sprinter Lucas Kuball had an outstanding meet for MCC. Kuball placed 11th in the 100-meter dash in a personalbest time of 11.45 seconds before adding another personal best in the 200-meter dash, finishing 12th in 23.33 seconds. He also placed ninth in the 400 meters with yet another personal- best effort of 52.21 seconds. Kuball added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 inches.
In the middle-distance races, Alexander Betz turned in one of the top finishes for the Rebels. Betz placed fourth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:03.46 and later added a 13th-place finish in the 1600 meters with another personalbest mark of 4:46.54.
Henry Carlson also delivered a strong performance in the 800 meters, placing ninth with a personal-best time of 2:08.05.
The Rebels’ distance runners continued to contribute in the longer events. Micah Janssen finished 19th in the 1600 meters with a personal-best 5:03.88 before placing 18th in the 3200 meters in 11:51.45. Carter Larson added a 16thplace finish in the 3200 meters with a personal-best time of 11:46.93.
MCC’s hurdle crew competed well against a deep field. Parker Olson placed 15th in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 17.05 seconds and later finished 15th again in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.51 seconds. Tyler Reith added an 18th-place finish in the 110 hurdles at 17.41 and finished 17th in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 45.86.
The Rebels also had several strong relay performances. The 4x400-meter relay team of Alexander Betz, Beckett Stelter, Henry Carlson, and Brayden Gilb finished fourth overall in 3:38.16, one of the top team finishes of the day for MCC.
The 4x800 relay team of Brayden Gilb, Beckett Stelter, Tyler Reith, and Henry Carlson added another strong performance, placing fourth in 8:40.12.
In the sprint relays, the 4x100 team of Caleb Rosenbrook, Luke Iverson, Max Mathiason, and Kolten Nielsen finished 12th in 48.55 seconds, while the 4x200 relay squad of Rosenbrook, Iverson, Brayden Gilb, and Nielsen placed 12th in 1:40.29.
Beckett Stelter also competed individually in the 400 meters, placing 15th with a personal-best 53.42 seconds. In the field events, the Rebels received major contributions from their throwing crew. Broox Platt placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 8.5 inches and later finished 14th in the discus at 117-2. Gabriel Wolske added a 15th-place finish in the shot put at 41-8 and turned in one of MCC’s best field-event performances by placing fifth in the discus with a throw of 1276.
In the jumps, Brett Pieske tied for 19th in the high jump by clearing 5-4 and later placed 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 39-2.25. Dylan Gilbertson added a 15th-place finish in the triple jump at 38-1.75, while Parker Olson finished 21st in the long jump at 17-10.
The Rebels also competed in the pole vault, where Luke Iverson tied for 14th by clearing 10-6, while Caleb Rosenbrook tied for 16th at the same height.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this group of young men” stated head coach TIm Bobeldyk. “Competing at the State True Team Meet against the best teams in Class A, our athletes stepped up and elevated their performances to match the level of competition. They embraced the moment, competed with confidence, and represented Murray County Central with tremendous pride. Finishing 11th out of 201 Class A schools is something this team should be extremely proud of.”
The Rebels now start the Minnesota High School League postseason, traveling to Luverne on May 21st for South Sub-Section action.
