By Crystal Reith The Murray County Central School Board meeting began with Superintendent Joe Meyer presenting personnel recommendations for two full lane change requests by Kirsten Harms and Kate DeLong, a leave of absence request by Payton Bleyenberg, a resignation submitted by Brian Gehrls and two early retirements submitted by Tina Bengtson and Tracey Kuhlman.

FULDA SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES FIRST SCHOOL DAY FOR 2026 AND 2027

By Norma Dittman A brief discussion ensued during Monday night’s Fulda School Board meeting regarding the first day of school for both the 2026-2027, and 2027-2028 years. The unanimous vote that followed is to start school both years after the Labor Day holiday. Discussion of this subject was necessary due to the lateness of Labor Day in those two years, and the fact that Minnesota legislation has allowed schools to begin their educational years prior to the holiday in 2026 and 2027.

FULDA/MCC WARRIORS FALL TO HUSKIES

The F/MCC Warriors had just one dual last week and it was the formidable Jackson County Central Huskies, who started the night 14-3. The Warriors lost the first 4 weights before Brayden Gilb took to the mat against Isaac Rodriguez.

Filling the Gap During Lent

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do so.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) As the Lenten season begins and we grow closer to the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection, there are numerous points for spiritual reflection to consider. Importantly, how can we prepare ourselves for this celebration? As the season is often characterized by personal sacrifice, in some form, we can also consider how to fill the “gap” this may create.

USDA TO OPEN CONTINUOUS AND GENERAL CONSERVATION RESERVE PROGRAM ENROLLMENT FOR 2026

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the enrollment periods for agricultural producers and landowners to submit offers for the Continuous and General Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is accepting offers for Continuous CRP starting Feb. 12, 2026, through March 20, 2026. Enrollment for General CRP will run from March 9, 2026, through April 17, 2026. FSA will announce dates for Grassland CRP signup in the near future.

SOIL HEALTH LUNCH AND LEARN

Murray County Farmers Union is hosting a Soil Health Lunch and Learn from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Murray County 4-H Building, 3048 Broadway Ave. Slayton. The event is free and open to the public.
