GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark June is in progress. The longest day of the year and the beginning of summer will be next week. Then the days will be shortening again. Also our summer hot weather is arriving. We wonder when it will top 100 degrees.

We hope your garden is doing well. The emails we get remind us that you might add some fertilizer to your plants. Note that you should match the fertilizer with what you are growing in that spot.

The garden stores now have their remaining plants and roots on sale prices. See what is available. Maybe you can plant asparagus, rhubarb and some flowering plants too. Then start making plans for your second garden. Remember to pick items to grow which will have a short growing season. Then you will have fresh garden produce all season.

We also received a garden news item. When planning your garden some garden plants do not get along with others. We all know about pumpkins and gourds growing too close. We’ve also mentioned some sweet corn varieties must be separated to avoid problems. This will keep you busy.

Don’t forget your house plants if still inside. Until next week.
