Clarice Joan Haugen was born October 13, 1942, in Tyler Minnesota to Ladis and Winnafred (Urban) Ochocki. She grew up on the family farm 5 miles south of Ivanhoe MN.

Jerome (Jerry) Douglas Johnson of Hadley, MN, passed away, peacefully, on June 24, 2022, at the age of 83. Jerry was armed with an easy-going charm & a sense of wit. He had a love of sports, especially baseball, golf, and fishing.

Darlene Joyce Moritz was born on October 11, 1937, to Louis and Hattie (Hegge) Oldewurtel in Iona, MN. She grew up in Iona and attended country school. On February 15, 1955, she and Henry Danneman Jr. were married at Immanuel American Lutheran Church and the couple had nine children. They farmed near Reading, MN for several years. On July 7, 1971, Darlene and Ray Moritz were married but later divorced. Darlene worked at various jobs including Swift in Marshall, MN, Campbells Soup in Worthington, MN and she was a nurse’s aide for several nursing homes in the surrounding area. Darlene passed away at the Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN on August 17, 2022, at the age of 84. She loved spending time with her family, playing cards, and loved animals. She had a great sense of humor and especially loved to joke and have a good time. She was known to many as “grandma” and thoroughly enjoyed talking to everyone she met. She will forever be remembered for her quick wit and her stubbornness.

Bernice Crompton was born on December 15, 1929, on the family farm near Forest Lake, Minnesota to Gotfred and Martina Bohman. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1947. Following high school Bernice moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked at Northwestern Fire and Marine Insurance Company. On December 15, 1951, she and George Crompton were married in Minneapolis. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minneapolis for one year before moving to Scotland, SD. In 1954 the family moved to Slayton, MN. In 1972 Bernice went to work for Penny Frock and later as a draftsman for Finley Engineering. Bernice retired in 1987. George passed away on October 7, 2014. Bernice remained in her home until 2016 when she moved to Sunrise Terrace in Slayton. In 2018 she moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton where she passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the age of 92. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN where she was active in ladies circle, taught Bible School, was on the Faith and Fellowship Committee, and was a charter member of the Chapel Bells Choir. In her younger days Bernice served as Cub Scout Den Mother and as a Girl Scout Brownie Leader. Bernice enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, and reading. Bernice entered many of her projects in the Murray County Fair and received many ribbons for her work.

June Lindsley, age 87, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the Prairie Home Hospice – Lockwood House in Marshall. June Ella Hartman was born on June 8, 1935, to Carl and Mabel (Syverson) Hartman on a farm just outside of Chandler, Minnesota.

Robert Anderson was born on May 22, 1932, in Slayton, Minnesota to Albin and Marie Griesert Anderson. He grew up on the farm and attended Country School District #75 Skandia Township. In 1940 the family moved to the Anderson family farm in Mason Township, Murray County, MN. On October 29, 1952, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. Following his honorable discharge on October 20, 1954, he returned to the family farm. On September 21, 1957, he and Lila Holm were married at the Slayton Lutheran Church in Slayton. Following their marriage, they farm in Mason Township and raised their two daughters. Robert also worked for the ASC office for a short time. He retired from farming in 1997 but they remained on the farm. In July 2022 Robert became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN. He passed away at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the age of 90. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Robert loved the outdoors and anything to do with wildlife. He was a supporter the National Wildlife Assn, Ducks Unlimited, and Shetek Lutheran Ministries. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, reading especially about History, traveling the western US and hunting ducks and antelope with his brother, Howard. Survivors include his wife, Lila Anderson of Slayton, MN two daughters, Valerie Davis of Omaha, NE, and Sharlene Anderson of Fulda, MN and one brother, Howard and his wife, Virginia Anderson of Fulda, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Bonnie Jean Anderson.

Mary Diekmann was born on September 15, 1941, in Fulda, Minnesota to Charles and Regina Zins Sauer. She grew up in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1959. On December 26, 1960, she and Loren Diekmann were married at St. Gabriel’s Church in Fulda. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm northwest of Wilmont, MN. First and foremost, Mary was a devoted wife and mother, as well as working at Sterling Drug in Worthington, Huisken’s Meats in Chandler, MN, and later cooked at the Worthington Regional Hospital. In 2000 they moved to Worthington, MN. In 2009 Mary retired and they moved to Wells, MN to be near family. In 2021 they moved to Oak Terrace Senior Living in North Mankato, MN. Mary passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the Mayo Health System in Mankato, MN at the age of 80. She was a lifelong member of St. Kilian Church where she was the organist, and pianist for over 35 years. She also was a member of the CCW and served as past President. Following their move to Wells they joined St. Casimar Church in Wells where Mary sang in the choir and was a member of the Bible study group. Mary also served on the Wells Library Board. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Pink Hat Society. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, attended her grandchildren’s activities, music of all kinds, sewing, baking, making greeting cards, reading, playing cards.

Shirley Ann Scarset, age 64 of Westbrook, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 surrounded by her family at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Shirley Ann (Hanson) Scarset, daughter of Floyd and Marian (Herrmann) Hanson, was born December 11, 1957 in Worthington, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Shirley attended country school through 5th grade and graduated from Westbrook High School. Following graduation, she moved to California for a couple of years before returning to Westbrook. Shirley worked at the nursing homes in Tracy, Slayton, and lastly in Westbrook. She was very dedicated to her job, never missing a day, and she thoroughly enjoyed the work she did. Shirley loved God, her kids and her grandkids. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life, as were her dogs. Most weekends, Shirley gathered with her children at her parents’ house simply to spend time. She was very upbeat and always kept a positive outlook. Shirley cared deeply about everyone, was fun-loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking and baking, drinking coffee and visiting, watching movies and reading. Shirley’s smile and laugh will never be forgotten. Shirley is survived by her chil

Grace Peterson, 93, of Clear Lake, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell, IA. The daughter of Frank D.

Brian Peterson 49 of Slayton, MN passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD as the result of a motorcycle accident. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Lake Sarah Baptist Church in rural Slayton, MN at 10:30 a.m.
