SKYWARN SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS TRAINING

First Responders and Community Members are invited to attend a Skywarn Severe Weather Awareness Training on Monday, April 6th at 7:00 PM. This event will be hosted at the Murray County Central Schools Auditorium, located at 2420 28th Street, Slayton, Minnesota.

CODY HANSEN WINS FIRST PLACE IN 50 MILE OUTLAW 100 TRAIL SERIES

By Norma Dittman Cody Hansen earned First Place Overall in the 50 Mile Outlaw 100 Trail Series on Saturday, February 14th. The ultramarathon consists of four 13mile loops - totaling roughly 52 miles. The course goes through very challenging, rocky and rooty trails near Twin Mountains in Kinta, Oklahoma.

SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL HEARS CONCERNS ABOUT MULTI-HOUSING UTILITY RATE INCREASE

An extensive discussion was held between Slayton City Council members and owners of multi-unit housing regarding the recent rate change to $55.00 per month per dwelling unit, with water usage of $4.00 per 1,000 gallons. The new rate structure went into effect for January 2026 usage.

NANA’S NAUGHTY NICKERS COMING TO FULDA STAGE

By Norma Dittman Nana’s Naughty Nickers, written by Katherine DiSavino, is coming to the stage at Fulda Elementary School on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 20th, 21st and 22nd. Production times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Adalie Pick Earned 1st Place Honors at State Competition

Adalie and her team Sapphire competed in the Minnesota State Gymnastics Championships and Adalie earned her title as STATE CHAMPION on her floor routine! Competing against 73 other gymnasts in her division, this was no easy task to get first place! Adalie also earned two new personal best scores on bars and floor. Her team got second place all around AND her team also received an extra award for best sportsmanship. Congratulations, Adalie and team Sapphire!

FULDA/MCC WRESTLING TAKES THREE TO STATE INDIVIDUALS AND PUTS ONE ON THE PODIUM

The Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament isn’t necessarily magical to start in the first few rounds, to simply be a spectator, but as you near the finals there’s a chill in the air, as you start to see hopefuls fall in matches. There’s also a thrill in the air as you see unexpected wins, upsets, and meaningful losses. The Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul seems like a huge venue at first, especially if you used chat GPT to find out what door to go in, then you have to walk around the stadium from gate 4 to gate 1 wondering if you might be lost. Upon entering, there’s a familiarity because its very much like every other tournament. Although smaller than Fargo, there are way more spectators. The Warrior wrestling family communicates where they are sitting, as coach Henning told them which of the 8 mats we might be wrestling on.

GIRLS END BEST BASKETBALL SEASON IN SEVEN YEARS WITH LOSS IN SUB-SECTIONS

The MCC Rebel Girls Basketball team advanced to the Sub-Section 3A South title game by beating the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons. The Rebels played in the game twice before, winning in 1995 against the Fulda Raiders and losing to the Fulda Raiders in 2006. Friday night the Rebels played the Hills Beaver Creek Patriots, the team that beat the Rebels twice in the regular season and went undefeated in the Red Rock Conference. The Rebels played a terrific defensive game and led the majority of the game. In the end it wouldn’t be enough.
