By John Stenen It was bedtime and mother had her little girl on her lap and had just finished telling her a bedtime story, prayed with her, kissed her, and sent her off to bed. A half hour later, mom heard a heavy thump in the girls room and rushed in to find her on the floor. She picked her up and said, “Honey, how could you have fallen out of bed?” “I don’t know mommy” she said, “I think I stayed too close to where I got in.” Have you ever wondered why many Christians are so ignorant of the Scriptures? They feel so inadequate to speak to others of their faith and share the good news of the gospel. It’s because they repent of their sin and receive Jesus Christ into their heart, then get water baptized and feel secure that they are saved, and don’t advance further in attempting to really grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. They stay where they got in. Scripture tells us in Mt. 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” This requires much more than the few verses you get each week in Church. We must pursue God through His Word and study it. This is how we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. God bless.
