CURRIE FAMILY AND FRIENDS
The Currie Family and Friends have had many names. In 1996, the team was formed and nine people joined. Collette Schmidt, Becky Luft, Lynn Paden, Mary Ann Erickson, Sharon Luft, Mary Leonard, Jeanette Silvernale, Paul Schmidt and Dorothy Jensen. They were called the End of the Line Hobos and took third place that year.
Dorothy Jensen is still a member of the team and has the distinct honor of being a part of Relay for Life for the past 30 years. She is one of the team captains and also has the responsibility of handling the team’s funds. You will also find her taking photos the night of the event for the Relay of Life album.
Since then, it has had a number of names, but finally settled on Currie Family and Friends, as the team consists of five family members and four friends.
The other team captain is Shelly Bassett, who has the job of keeping all of the team in line and is the team’s number one fundraiser. She is also one of the “Masters of Ceremonies” for the Relay for Life event.
It has been the goal of the Currie team to put their heart into raising funds to support Relay for Life. They have placed first for a number of years, with none of it possible if not for the generosity of the local businesses, organizations and many family and friends.
This year the Currie Family and Friends team will be sponsoring a “Quickie Deals” throughout the program. So fill your purse, your pocket or your backpack with any item you can think of, as you may be a winner of a gift certificate from a local business. If you are not familiar with the Quickie Deals, watch the end of Let’s Make a Deal.
Join us on Saturday, August 8th to celebrate Relay for Life.
TEAM FULDA
We are a small team, but we are mighty!!
We have been a team under the leadership of Sandy Holinka for 29 years. The members have changed over the years, but all have given much dedication towards our goal of finding a cure.
Our biggest fund raisers have been our annual rummage sale in May and our “Table Cancer “event each April. This past year we hosted 20 tables. Each table is decorated in fun, meaningful, unique ways. From paper plates to fancy china. The themes vary from a table honoring the television show “Mash” and “Friends”, to Christmas, Easter, Halloween, the seasons of the year and specific to the dishes used in memory of family or friends.
Each year teams choose a theme. We have had several, “give Cancer the Boot”, “Stepping up for a Cure”, “Mash out Cancer”, and many more. This year our theme is, “Cancer picked the wrong Princess”, in honor of Rylee Kramer, daughter of Kody & Crystal Kramer. She is currently battling cancer.
Small but mighty we are, and with your help we will get closer to a cure.
